Meet Addy by Connie Porter

I liked the book Meet Addy because she believed in God and she always had hope. One part of the book I did not like was that the owners of Addy's family were WAY too mean! Addy is a 9 year old struggling through the hard times of slavery in 1864. Slavery must have been pretty hard!
Meet Addy teaches us a good lesson about standing strong when times are hard and to stand up to what we believe in. Addy believes that she and her family should be free. Addy has a little sister named Esther and a big brother named Sam. Addy's owner is named Master Stevens. He sold Addy's father, Poppa, and Sam to be slaves for someone else! In a disguise Addy and Momma escape  from Master Stevens. Since Esther would most likely cry and give them away, she had to stay with Auntie Lula and Uncle Solomon, who were also slaves for Master Stevens.
Meet Addy is a great book.  I hope you get a chance to read it!

  2. Mallory,
I am So So proud of you! Isn't it amazing the God of the universe chose one of His ways to communicate with us through reading! Yes reading His Word! In all the books you read, constantly look for good and evil, truth and falsehood, Godly and UnGodly charaters. When you read, you take yourself into different worlds, use your imagination and enjoy reading and learning through written words. One of the gifts God has given you is reading and it is a gift to be your teacher!
    I love you!

  3. Mallory,

I love your blog! My girls have loved the American Girl books. I think the story about Addy can be a little scary at points. I hope you learn lots about history. This book is about a sad time in our history.
